Nonprofit teams lose hours every week to spreadsheet wrangling, manual reports, and tools that don't talk to each other. We build small AI-powered tools that fix one specific problem at a time — usually in two weeks, for a fixed price.
Book a 20-minute call →We don't do six-month transformations. We do small, useful things that work on Monday.
That 47-tab spreadsheet your team maintains by hand becomes a simple internal app with search, summaries, and the data structured the way it should have been from the start.
A form that actually understands what someone is asking for — sorting volunteer signups, donor inquiries, or program applications into the right buckets and routing them to the right person automatically.
Hand us your messy data export. We give you back a clean monthly dashboard with AI-written narrative summaries you can drop into board reports and grant updates.
A small chatbot trained on your SOPs, policies, and program docs — so new staff stop interrupting your senior people with questions that are already answered in a binder somewhere.
We also build other things. If your problem doesn't fit one of these, tell us about it on the call.
Two weeks. One fixed price. One clear outcome.
Both options include a 30-minute kickoff call, async check-ins during the build, a Loom walkthrough at handoff, and a written summary your team can keep.
Most AI consultants chase startups and enterprise contracts. We don't. We work with nonprofit ops teams — the people quietly holding everything together with spreadsheets, sticky notes, and grit. We think your work matters, and we think the tools you've been handed don't match it. Outward Tools exists to close that gap, two weeks at a time.
Yes. Fixed. No upsells, no surprise add-ons, no "we found scope creep." If we discover your problem is bigger than one tool can solve, we'll tell you on the kickoff call and you can decide whether to upgrade — or walk away with no charge.
That's normal. The 20-minute call is a problem-finding conversation. We'll help you name the most painful workflow and figure out whether we can fix it. If we can't, we'll tell you.
Yes. We don't store your data on our systems. Tools we build run on infrastructure you own (or trusted services like your existing Google Workspace, Airtable, etc.). For AI features, we use enterprise APIs that don't train on your data. Specifics depend on the build — we'll walk through it on the call.
After the support window, we offer a $500/month "keep it running, small improvements" plan if you want it. Most clients don't need it. That's fine — the tools are built to keep working without us.
If the tool we deliver doesn't do what we agreed it would do at kickoff, we fix it or refund you.
Outward Tools is built and run by Ryan Carter — a software engineer with 30+ years of experience across full-stack development, data systems, and AI integration. After watching nonprofit teams hold their organizations together with spreadsheets and goodwill, Ryan started Outward Tools to close the gap between the work nonprofits do and the tools they're handed.
Modern AI makes it possible to build the right tool in two weeks, at a price small organizations can actually afford. No six-month transformations. No hourly creep. Just the thing that fixes the problem, built by someone who takes craft seriously and respects your time.
